To clarify, the stimulus payments were reconciled as follows.
The third economic impact payment (3EIP) of $1,400 per person was paid in 2021. For you this should have been $2,800 (you and your son). The 2021 tax return reconciles this payment using the recovery rebate credit (RRC). Based on your comments this should be zero on your return if you received the full payment prior to filing your taxes. The 'Federal Review' tab is used to complete this.
The first two economic impact payments (1EIP and 2EIP) were received and reconciled on the 2020 tax return. If you are missing any of this payment, you may need to amend the 2020 return.
If you are referring to an advance child tax credit (ACTC) payment and the child tax credit (CTC) you believe you should be entitled to this also is reconciled on the 2021 tax return.
The following total amount is what is allowed for each child based on age, and the advance was expected to be no more than half of what would be allowed on the tax return for 2021.
The IRS will know the combined amount and will have a structure in place to identify it. You can allocate to each of you based on what you would have received for your own children. It is not yet clear, because they have not had time to post exactly how they want a situation like yours to be handled.

$1400
It was the second payment that I filed for on my taxes in 2021. Turbo tax stated that they calculated my rebate correctly per what the IRS was telling them, but it made no sense as I only received 1/2 of the second payment (the amount for a single person) but my first and third were for both myself and my son.
We need additional information. What is your question? You stated $1400. Was your refund $1400 less than expected? Please provide additional information so that we may assist you properly.
You can amend your return to adjust the stimulus amount. It's not obvious. Choose "Amend my Return", and then under "Federal Taxes" select "Federal Review". It will give you the option to adjust the amount you received.
IRS will provide a Notice explaining the adjustments to your refund. TurboTax does not process any refunds and therefore cannot assist you with this issue.
The 2021 tax return requested information about the Third Stimulus not the second. Tax year 2020 requested information about the first and Second Stimulus payments. So, it makes sense that your refund is incorrect because you included a request for the second stimulus that is only on the 2020 return.
The second stimulus payments will be advance payments of the recovery rebate credit just like the first stimulus payments under the CARES Act. If you are eligible and do not get a payment or it is less than expected, you may be able to claim it on your 2020 tax return as the Recovery Rebate Credit. The IRS is directing tax filers, who have not received their full payment by the time they file their 2020 tax return, to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on their tax return. TurboTax will guide tax filers through the process of claiming the Recovery Rebate Credit so that eligible filers get every dollar they deserve.
I guess this has been hard to explain for complete understanding, and I apologize. Please see below:
1st stimulus; correct as the amount received was for myself and included my minor child in the amount
2nd stimulus; did not receive via direct deposit until I filed for the recovery rebate on my 2020 taxes. The amount calculated on the return was in the amount of $600 and not the $1200 I was owed, as my son was claimed on my taxes
3rd stimulus; was received via direct deposit in the full amount for a parent and dependent child.
I apologize, I was incorrect as I’m just now filing my 2021 taxes. My 2020 taxes short changed my second stimulus by $600. The first and third stimulus received were correct and in the proper amounts for a parent and dependent child. My second stimulus however, was only $600 instead of $1200 via the recovery rebate, and nub dependent child was also claimed on my 2020 taxes.
@twalsh84 Sounds like you might need to amend your 2020 return. There is no place to enter anything about the 2nd stimulus check on a 2021 return.
The first EIP --or stimulus check--- was issued in 2020 It was for $1200 for adults and $500 for a dependent under the age of 17. The IRS used information from either your 2019 or 2020 tax return to issue those checks so they could send them out in a hurry.
The 2nd EIP or stimulus was issued in late 2020 or early 2021 and was $600 for adults and $600 for dependents under age 17.
If you did not receive the 1st and/or 2nd stimulus check you can get it by filing a 2020 tax return and using the recovery rebate credit in Federal Review. It will end up on line 30 of a 2020 tax return and will be added to your refund (or reduce your tax due).
The 3rd EIP--or stimulus check-- was sent out in mid-March or later in 2021 and was for $1400 per person--adults and dependents no age limit.
If you did not get the 3rd EIP payment you can get it by filing a 2021 tax return and using the recovery rebate credit in Federal Review. The credit will go on line 30 of your Form 1040 and will add to your refund (or reduce your tax due).
