My federal return was accepted. Turbotax says I still have taxes due. Why? I thought I paid already? How do I get this to a 0 balance?

Turbo Tax will always say tax due (or refund).  That is just the state of your return when you filed it.  Turbo Tax is not updated when you pay the tax or get the refund.  The IRS and state do not tell them when they get your payment.  Once Turbo Tax efiled your return they are done with their part.

How did you pay it?  Your only proof of payment is your bank or credit card statement showing it coming out.  Turbo Tax does not pay it.  They only send your bank info to the IRS or state for them to pull it out of your account.

The return had a balance due on it and  paying it will not change that fact.  The return in the TT system will always say you had a blance due since they don't get word from the IRS it was paid and there is no way to change that fact.   If you went to a local paid tax pro and you left the office with a paper copy of the return in your hand that showed  a balance due then it will always show a balance due ... the same is with the TT system.

If you owe tax to the IRS, then your return will show a balance due forever. TurboTax has no way of knowing when or if you paid the balance due, and the IRS will not relay that information to anyone except the tax payer that actually paid it. If you paid that balance due, then you have some type of receipt or other means of proving you paid it - such as a credit card statement or bank statement.
