I had entered all of my information and was to begin checking my return when my desktop computer wouldn't turn on. I've been told its the hard drive. I did have all my data backed up but now it is telling me I have it running someplace else with code 7001 I believe. Everything is on an external drive but it won't allow the drive to pull the information in. I had to reinstall turbo tax into my laptop and it would be so so difficult to start all over again since everything is already on the external drive.

Yes, there can be problems if you use TurboTax or save files on an external drive. You can save a copy of your tax file there after you've filed, as a back up.
Check your Task Manager to see if you have two occurrences of TurboTax running. Close both of them, restart the computer, then try opening TurboTax again. If you get the same error, you could uninstall/reinstall the program.
If you reinstall, open TurboTax and browse for the location of your tax file on your external drive to continue your return. However, you could copy the .tax2024 file from the external drive to your laptop desktop, which should make it easier for TurboTax to find.

Yes copy the .tax2024 data file to the laptop hard drive. It should go in your documents in a Turbo Tax folder. You may have to make the Turbo Tax folder.
After you get the program installed or reinstalled on the new computer the first thing to do before you open your tax return is to update the program and install any state programs you had. Then open your file. So you first might need to start a fake return to be able to download the state program (go to FILE - NEW). Enter some basic information, then go to the state tab and download the state program. Then try to open your existing return, go to FILE - OPEN
