Mt Mac is running 11.7 and the newest version of Turbotax needs to run on Mac OS X 12 or higher. What should I do outside of purchasing a new machine?

You can use the TurboTax online editions for 2023 when they become available in early December.  You can transfer the 2022 tax data file from your computer to the 2023 online tax return.

If your Mac cannot meet the system requirements for the CD/download --and you cannot update your OS, then you could use the online software program instead.

The TurboTax desktop and online editions are totally separate programs with different price points.  There will not be any type of charge for changing from a desktop edition to an online edition.

The online edition account fees are based on the complexity of your tax return.  The Free online edition is only for very simple tax returns where only the Form 1040 is required and not any other forms or schedules.  If the tax return requires more than just the Form 1040 then you would need the Deluxe or Premium editions.

Did you already buy the CD or Download program?  Are you on the Advantage auto renew plan?  Then you will need to get a refund for the Desktop program and pay for Online web version separately.  You can't apply the Desktop purchase to the Online version.

HOWEVER....if you are part of the TurboTax "Advantage" program, that auto-charges you every year for the TTX Desktop program.  You would need to cancel that service if you are going to switch to the "Online" program.

The price paid for the desktop software will not be applied to the "Online" software...those are entirely different $$$charge systems.
