Medical Expenses

I was on Obama Healthcare for half of the year and then on my own health insurance for the rest of the year.  However, when I go to enter my Medical Expenses in Turbotax, it states "NOT" to include the premiums I had to pay out of my pocket for the first half of the year that I was on Obama Healthcare??

Why would I not include my premiums since the Obama Healthcare premiums/credits which was sent to my Providence Healthcare Insurance was not enough to cover my Providence insurance Premiums and I was billed each month from Providence Health Insurance to make up the difference?

I would expect to be able and write these premiums I paid out of pocket on my medical expenses???

Medical Expenses

Enter your Form 1095-A and the premiums paid will be included in the medical expenses section.

To enter your Form 1095-A -

  • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
  • Click on Deductions and Credits
  • Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
  • Scroll down to Medical
  • On Affordable Care Act (Form 1095-A), click the start or update button

Or enter 1095-a in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to 1095-a

Medical Expenses

So you are saying that once I enter my 1095-A  information Turbotax automatically adds the premiums that I paid out of my pocket to my Medical Expense premium Totals (and therefore I will not add them under Medical Expense premiums) - right?
