I've seen other posts on this, however the responses haven't applied to my situation. I receive a public employee's pension as a former police officer. I am under the age of 59.5. My 1099R properly shows I had federal taxes withheld. But TurboTax is calculating the gross distribution amount as the full amount I received (aka: take home pay), whereas it should be showing a net amount received after taxes were withheld - but it is not factoring in the taxes that were withheld. How do I resolve this?

Sorry it’s the full amount. You never subtract the withholding from anything W2 or 1099 to get the taxable amount.
When you get a pension or take a withdrawal you don't pay the actual tax on it. You have taxes withheld like from your paycheck. The withholding is just an estimated amount. At the end of the year you will get a form 1099R to enter into your tax return. The withholding will be in box 4. On your tax return you enter the full amount as income. Then you get credit for the withholding on line 25b.
You still have to enter the whole gross original amount (before taxes were withheld) with your other income to figure out the total tax (and it may put you into a higher tax bracket) and then the withholding is subtracted from the total tax to figure your refund or tax due. The gross amount shows up,on 1040 line 4a or 5a and the taxable amount on 4b or 5b. The withholding will show up on 1040 line 25b.
You need to look at your federal tax return, Form 1040. The taxable amount from your pension in box 2a of the Form 1099-R flows to the Form 1040 Line 5b. The federal taxes withheld in box 4 of the Form1099-R flow to the Form 1040 Line 25b.

Ah, I see it now. Thank you!
