Provide some details. You do know that there are seven different tax tables that can be used to calculate your tax, right---depending on the type of income entered? It is not all just from one tax table.
Yes TurboTax software is making a mistake, but I don't know how to fix it.
My federal income amount is 9100,but TurboTax stated that I owe 1330. The federal income tax bracket I'm in, is for 10%... 10% of 9100 is not 1330
Is the tax on line 16 1330? Or is that your tax due? You have the Desktop program. Look at the 1040. You have the Home & Business program which is for self employment. Do you also have self employment tax? You might also owe a penalty for taking an early IRA distribution. Or some other tax or penalty. Which lines don't you understand?
What kind of income? W2 or 1099NEC?
If your income is 9100 then your taxable income after the Standard Deduction is 0 (zero). Check line 15. Then the 1330 might be the self employment tax on 9100.
Self Employment tax (Scheduled SE) is automatically generated if a person has $400 or more of net profit from self-employment. You pay 15.3% SE tax on 92.35% of your Net Profit (If it is greater than $400). The 15.3% self employed SE Tax is to pay both the employer part and employee part of Social Security and Medicare. So you get social security credit for it when you retire.
It is on the 1040 Schedule 2 line 4 which goes to 1040 line 23. The SE tax is in addition to your regular income tax on the net profit. You do get to take off the 50% ER portion of the SE tax as an adjustment on 1040 Schedule 1 line 15 which flows to 1040 line 10.
I will have to check that when I'm at the desktop later. Yes I have self employment tax, but only made 5700. So still the 1330 amount doesn't add up.
I need to be home on the desktop to check that, but does that make sense that my overall taxable I come is 9100, but my included self employment taxable income is only 5700. So the amount of tax I'm being charged of 1330 is much greater than 15.3% of 5700.
SE tax on 5700 is $805. So look for the other 525 on your return.
Where do I look? I'm having a very difficult time with all of this. Do you know of anyone that I can call and speak to that can help me with this, since TurboTax refuses to offer any assistance?
Look at every line on the 1040 tax return. Well all the lines on page 2 from line 16. And look at Schedule 2 for other taxes.
If you have the Desktop program you can switch to Forms mode and look around. You'll find it.
