I was told that a CPA would review my taxes (free) and wanted this to be done before I file. How would I do this?

Told by whom?   And why did they say it was "free?"   A review by CPA/EA normally requires an upgrade to Live TurboTax.   Live Deluxe is $120 for a Federal return and $55 for a state return.    You appear to be using regular Deluxe (at least that is what is displayed underneath your question), which is $60 for a Federal return and $50 for s state return.   If you choose to pay any fees out of the Federal refund, there is an additional $40 service fee ($45 for California filers), that can be avoided by paying upfront with credit/debit card.

After completing both the fed and state returns, I ended up owing $ on both.

Due to this, T-T said I qualified to have someone give my returns a once-over.

Kind of a booby prize I guess.
