It means your e-filed return is on its way and the government hasn't accepted or rejected it yet. Please see What does pending mean? for more detailed information. 

 

Once the IRS has accepted your e-filed return, you can check the status of your refund by going directly to: https://www.irs.gov/refunds

 

Additionally, you can check out this Help Article for instructions on how to track your state refund.

I’m sorry I meant to say my “Refund” is on the way not return….

I receive a email today from TurboTax stating congratulations your return is on its way, what does that mean?

Pending simply means that the government hasn't accepted or rejected your tax return yet. Please see the information available here for assistance.

 

When you e-file your tax return, you will receive two emails. The first email only confirms the transmission was received.  The second email will state if the IRS or your state either accepted or rejected your e-file. Please see the information in this TurboTax FAQ that explains in more detail the pending process here.
