If you haven't yet filed your return, you can go back and enter the second W-2, using these steps:

  1. Click on Federal > Wages & Income
  2. Under Wages and Salaries, click the Start/Update box.
  3. Continue through the screens until you come to Review Your W-2 info
  4. Click the Add another W-2 box and continue to enter another W-2.
  5. When you are finished entering all your W-2s, click Done.

If you have already filed your return, you have to wait until the IRS either rejects or accepts your return.

  • If your return is rejected, you will be able to go into your account, make the changes to your tax return, and re-submit your return.
  • If the IRS accepts your return, however, then you have to wait longer until it has been fully processed and you have received your refund.  THEN you can prepare an amended tax return and mail it in.

IMPORTANT:  Meanwhile, DO NOT go in and start changing anything on your return in the system, or you will make a mess for yourself.  Sit tight and wait until you see what the IRS does with the return you just e-filed.

Please see the instructions contained in these TurboTax Help articles to amend your return:

NOTE:  The 1040X form (amended)return won't be available until probably late-February.  For current information on forms availability please click on the applicable link below:

Did you enter BOTH W-2's on the same tax return--which is what you were supposed to do?   Or did you e-file one and then try to add another one later?
