I know that I don't qualify for the WFTC but it won't allow me to electronically file my taxes. I have never filed on paper before.

Delete the tax form in forms mode and try the submission again.  To delete the form, follow these steps:

  • Click Forms in the top right corner
  • Scroll down to the State Individual Return
  • Find the WFTC worksheet and click delete form

Replying to @Joshua1914   -- "I had this issue. I fixed it when filing go back to home and click on state click the trash button and it will force you into a new screen that says continue. Don’t hit continue just click the home button on the top right and finish filing."

Thank you so much, I struggled so much before trying this and it worked! Turbotax better fix this issue. I didn't pay to encounter this sh1tty problem. Either make users to delete state tax without forcing to start over or fix the issue with WFTC.

I have no trash button in state page, when I hit edit it goes to the next screen. Is there any other way to get rid of this error?

Another way to efile if the info form cant be deleted is to proceed to efiling and do not put a check mark in filing state return.  I efiled succesfully.

I did what others have done - since TT will not let you delete the WA state return once it's completed and we were not eligible for the WFTC,  I just ignored it, selected E-File Federal return and selected "Do Not" E-File state return.

I don't plan to mail in a blank WA state return so I'm ignoring anything to do with the WA State part. It didn't even print anything when I printed the tax returns for my records.   Federal return was E-Filed successfully.  Hope that helps anyone who is stuck on this.

I've run into the same issue.  No WA income.  Not qualified for WFC.  TT keeps telling me I have an error on my WA return, but also tells me I don't need to file a WA return if I don't qualify for WFC.

I am not checking the Efile option and won't email in my empty WA forms either.

Wish TT would fix this.

In TurboTax, click File --> Remove State Return --> Choose WA State --> Click Remove

You will need to follow the steps provided above to delete the Washington state return.  Once the return is deleted you should be able to e-file.  Since WA is a no income tax state there is no need to have a state return.

  1. Click State return
  2. Click Delete (trashcan icon) next to WA state
