As a support tech with Turbotax, you don't have a clue, do you? Please see the above text to fix the issue and share with your contracted colleagues.
This solution changing TT22 to TT2022 worked. Thanks a lot.

I hit the same issue using TurboTax 2022 and under Windows. Installed, activated TT, entered full federal and state return info, exited. A few weeks later start TT again, to file returns, it forced an auto-update, which forced a re-activation, which gave Error Code 630 repeatedly. Three calls to TT support (reboot, repair, uninstall/reinstall) did nothing. The Level 1 support is basically clueless.
Tried your solution it worked tysm @Terry Hall
It's sad this is not a known solution to a long known problem for TT support.
Thanks very much! I appreciate your help!
You're welcome.
@mlgress
This solution worked for me. Thank you.
@SForrestLO Just curious why you are taking credit here. Terry Hall provided the solution which three calls to aTurboTax support could not resolve and wasted hours of my time.
For those of you interested (TurboTax Support) are you listening, the root cause here is after the update there is a hidden garbage folder remaining on your system which causes the 630 error.
This garbage folder is NOT removed by uninstalling TurboTax so the 630 error repeats infinitely.
The location of this hidden garbage file depends on what version of windows you are using, see @Terry Hall s post, or do a search for folder TXX where XX is the year for your TurboTax, then rename the folder (eg TT22-BAD) and restart TurboTax.
The sad and disappointing part to me is that a bunch of people hit the 630 issue in 2020, a solution was identified by the community, yet the issue is still present with TurboTax 2022 and TurboTax Support clueless.
This solution should be readily known to Support and passed thru to Development as a defect already.
Taxes have a time critical element and to leave this defect festering in this way is a disgrace to TurboTax users.
@VictoriaD75 Your post did not resolve my 630 issue. See my post for what did.
There was an error with validating your license code, please try again. Error code: 630
Thank you very much for sharing this information. I tried this and it worked for me.
How do i fix this
Case failure. Intuit failure. Restored image backup of Windows 10 computer "Jedi" that had TT H&B 2019, which broke the activation. TT support would not provide a replacement activation code. I uninstalled 2019 from another computer hoping it would decriment the activation server and free up one of the remaining 4 installs. It did not. Intuit supervisor Matt on Thu, 11/9/23 told me to go out and buy a 3rd party additional copy of TT H&B 2019 which I did from reseller Secondipity. I uninstalled the 2019 troublesome TT instance, cleaned the registry, deleted remaining 2019 program files from the ProgramX86 directory, disabled anti-virus, reset the router, made sure network IPx6 settings and DNS entries were correct, installed the new CD and with the new activation code from the box and it still would not activate and I get activation error code 630. Intuit should be ashamed 360. This will be posted on social media. TurboTax is a deeply troubled company with bad I/T, marketing and risk management processes and should be broken up as a monopoly because we have no other choice without serious inconvenience.
New case: [phone number removed].
Hi OlafThe Nork,
I agree with you that Turbo Tax as a company has no clue about the issues people are having with their software. They don't even read community topics or they could have helped you with better service. The sad and disappointing part to me is that a bunch of people hit the 630 issue in 2020, a solution was identified by the community, yet the issue is still present with TurboTax 2022 and likely in 2023 and beyond, and TurboTax Support clueless. The root cause here is after the update there is a hidden garbage folder remaining on your system which causes the 630 error. Fix Below:
if a cx is getting error code 630 do these steps and it will fix the issue,
Step 1: Open File Explorer and go to: c:\users\<your-user-name>
Step 2: Select the View menu and check "Hidden Items" (so that you can see the AppData subdirectory)
Step 3: Go to C:\Users\<your-user-name>\AppData\Roaming\Intuit\TurboTax
step 4: if you can't find appdata, type run in the search bar, then type %appdata% and it will take you to step 3 of roaming.
Step 4: Rename the TY19 or whatever the last numbers are just put a 20 in front of TY, so rename to TY2022 or the current year.
Step 5: Open TurboTax again
Unfortunately this has not solved my problem. It seems that after I rename the file and reopen TT, the system writes a new file with the old title thus I believe rendering this fix incompatible. Any recommendations on how to avoid a new file being creating upon relaunching TT?
