Do you have a TurboTax Online account?

We'll help you get started or pick up where you left off.

I just submitted my taxes and paid my taxes with credit card. My return was rejected. I don't want a duplicate charge on my cc?

When I resubmit.  Looks like it may charge twice.

If the e-file was rejected then nothing went through.  The IRS (or state) do not have your credit card information unless they accepted your e-file.

You received an email that we cannot see that tells you why your tax return was rejected.

Some rejected returns can be fixed and re-filed.  Some have “un-fixable” reasons for the rejection and have to be mailed instead. What is the rejection code or rejection message?

If it was rejected for AGI—-be aware that many 2021 returns took so long for the IRS to process that your 2021 AGI might not be in the IRS system.   Try using zero instead.

If filing with zero is rejected then file again but select the option that you did not file last year.  The IRS does not see that question and it will allow you to e-file with no AGI question.

If that does not work and you still cannot e-file, then print, sign, and mail your tax return.

Yes, my AMEX was charged immediately as soon as I submitted.  TurboTax and the IRS should not charge clients until the return is "accepted."

After I went back in and clicked "fix errors" then TurboTax fixed the glitches automatically and said it was good to go, so apparently, there is some type of software bug.

When I went to resubmit my return, TT recognized that my State had already been "paid" but not my Federal.  Federal prompted me to enter all my credit card info again and re-submit.  Since I know my cc was already charged a very large sum of payment, I am not submitting again.

This is very bad customer service on TT part.  Don't allow payment of return until the return is officially "accepted."  Plus, I am not going to to take a chance on a duplicate charge getting that reversed with IRS bureaucracy for months.  Horrible customer service and process.

To complicate things, since there were several errors in the software that I could not correct, I started a new return.  After I submitted that return, I went back in, and the software somehow cleared all the previous errors and submitted the return again, without my approval or submission.

So, now I have 2 submitted returns to the IRS and State.  SMH

How am I supposed to correct  the duplicate submission?

@robfelts15 It is impossible to e-file successfully twice, so only one of your returns might be accepted.   If your first e-file was accepted, then any further attempts to e-file will just be rejected by the IRS.  And if a federal return is rejected by the IRS, your state return is automatically rejected too.  So you need to wait for the emails that tell you whether your returns were accepted.

When you e-file your federal return you will receive two emails from TurboTax.  The first one will say that your return was submitted.  The second email will tell you if your federal return was accepted or rejected.  If you e-filed a state return, there will be a third email to tell you if the state accepted or rejected your state return.
