The TurboTax online version is not synced with desktop (CD/download) version, so your information would not auto-fill into the desktop version. If you saved your prior year TurboTax online return(s) as a tax data file onto your computer, you can then upload that file into the software you installed on the computer. Below you will find the steps for saving it as a tax data file.

And you can use these steps to open that tax data file in the software.
That's deceptive marketing as back of CD package says you can import last year's TurboTax data. Good customer service should allow the easy download of .tax "data" from online to hard drive to use in CD software. If Intuit doesn't want to maximize customer service, then at the very least, clearly state on the CD package that previous year's online data is NOT accessible in the CD version, requiring user to retype all information!!! There's no reason to tick customers off other than to charge more for the online even though it costs more to produce and distribute the CD through retail channels. On top of it, Intuit doesn't even all for feedback in their surveys or have a way to email them with complaints. Very frustrated!!!!!!!
Yes you can transfer from the online version to the Desktop program.
If you used the online version last year and need to transfer your info to this year's Desktop version there are 2 ways depending on what you have.
1. If you saved the actual .tax2018 file (not just the pdf file) to your computer before online was shut down in Oct. then start a new return and the very first thing you do is Transfer from .tax file. You can only transfer at the very beginning.
2. If you didn't save the .tax file to your computer or lost it, there is a way to do it by starting your return in the Online version, transfer to that and then continue in the desktop version. You won't have to pay for Online. See this…..
