You can shred them. The 1040ES quarterly estimated tax payments DO NOT get sent to the IRS or state with your return. They are optional to pay. Turbo Tax is very conservative and doesn't want you to owe too much next year. They might have printed out if you got a one time large income this year. Like if you took a IRA or 401K distribution. You can ignore them. You might want to adjust your withholding at work so you won't owe too much next year.
To Simplify the other answer a bit.
Yes, TTax will automatically add four "estimated tax" pages to your PDF and printout of your taxes.
That is the ONLY place they will exist - on paper or PDF.
They do NOT get transmitted to Fed or State.
You can use them, or as other poster suggested shred them.
I had this happen for a loan that was discharged, but considered taxable income...and saw this print out, I do not feel I need to make estimated tax payments for the next year...and just because the discharge caused my income or AGI to be artificially bumped up/inflated this year, just to pay taxes on money I never received. How do I remove the NC-40 estimated forms from my filings, to be sure they don't transmit to the state? Especially, since the show due dates, I want to make sure! I haven't submitted them yet, due to this causing quite a scare, since I have never seen them before on turbo tax, and don't know what prompted it, other than filing D-400? I am not a contractor or vendor, only 1099-c for loan discharge, is the only thing different this year 2025, for 2024 taxes. Is the 1040-ES what causes the NC-40 forms to print out?
Ps. VolvoGirl Level 15 are you a certified turbo tax advisor?
Thank you!
The estimated payment vouchers don't get transmitted with the tax return. The are for your reference. However, if you want to remove the vouchers from your copy of the return you can follow these steps:
1. Once logged in to your account and on the Tax Home page, click on State Taxes and then Review/Edit or Pick up where you left off.
2. If you're not on the list of states included with the return, click Your State Returns on the left hand panel. (You may need to click on State Taxes to expand the menu first.)
3. Click Continue next to North Carolina.
4. You should see a summary screen that says Your North Carolina taxes are ready for us to check. Click Edit next to Other situations.
5. Choose Revisit or Start next to Make Estimated Payments for Next Year.
6. Select Skip Estimated Taxes
