How to I report bugs

@whyisthistheonlywayicanreachyou wrote:

Turbotax correctly identified that I overpaid FICA taxes by several thousand dollars last year, and then failed to submit that information for a refund.  Despite paying for "Max" service, after multiple attempts I have not been able to get anyone on the phone who understands what FICA taxes are and / or graduated high school.  Could someone please help direct me to a someone who: (1) knows what Social Security is and can understand / escalate the product issue, and (2) help secure the additional refund that I am owed.

If you alone had two or more employers in 2019 and the total of all Social Security taxes paid was greater than $8,239.80 then the excess amount would have been entered on Schedule 3 Line 11.  The total of Schedule 3 Part II Line 14 would flow to your Form 1040 Line 18d as a tax payment.  This amount would be included in your federal tax refund or have reduced your federal taxes owed.

Look at your tax return to verify that the excess SS taxes were entered.

Note - If you filed as Married Filing Jointly the total SS taxes withheld are for each taxpayer based on their individual W-2's, it is not combined on your return for any excess.  Also, verify that the W-2's entered were for each taxpayer and not combined for only one taxpayer.

If you paid excess SS from one employer you are suppose to get it back from that employer.  Or you might have had 2 employers that used the same payroll service?  That can cause a problem.

And it's not for FICA, it's only for Social Security in box 4.   Add up your box 4s and separately your spouse box4 (If Married).

If you had more than one employer and  the total of box 4 (only box 4 not box 6) on all your 2019 W2s  for Social Security is more than $8,239.80 (max 132,900 wages) you get the excess back on your tax return.  And it is for each spouse separately, not combined.  Check 1040 Schedule 3 line 11 for it.  Then Schedule 3 goes to 1040 line 18d.

Dear Turbo Tax,

You have an error in the program that is preventing me from e-filing my State of Nebraska return.  I have a balance due on my form 1040N and my tax summary worksheet.  I want to electronically debit my account to pay the balance due.  I have entered all the account data on the information worksheet, but when I try to click "Yes" on electric debit it says I have no balance due and gives me an error.  It shows a blank on the balance due line on the info worksheet.  If I click on this blank it takes me to the tax summary, which shows the correct balance due.  But the amount is not transferring to the info worksheet and this is locking out the ability to pay the actual balance due by debit.  Please fix this as quickly as possible so I can file my tax returns!!

There is a glitch or issue with the IRS detecting similar w-2s on your return.  However, they are separate w-2s for 2 separate people. I work for Intuit and I am just reporting the bug for her.

She is very unhappy with the glitch bug issue because she has to send in her federal and state return.

I understand the situation.  A simple practice solution is to add $1 to one W-2, and subtract $1 from the other.

This will not affect any taxes and will allow it to go through.

Schedule D has a typo transferring gain on to 1040. It says line 6 of 1040

It should be line 7 on 1040

TurboTax Premier has a bug. Before it will e-file the federal return it must 'update TurboTax.' Launching the updater, it checks and reports "TurboTax is up to date." Trying again to e-file the federal return, it once again insists that TurboTax must update before filing the federal return. Once again the updater claims TurboTax is up to date. This is a bug.

Tech support can't report it without accessing my computer and my screen. That is not a technical problem, IT IS AN ORGANIZATIONAL PROBLEM.

Time for Intuit to fix the bug!

Working in 2021 home & business (desktop version).  After entering a 1099-DIV I keep getting looped around and can't leave the function.  Keep seeing

1) Did you have any investment losses you couldn't claim in 2020? (answer NO)

2) Did you receive a Form 2439 for 2021? (answer NO)

3) Any straddles or Section 1256 Contracts? (answer NO)

4) Investment Stock Options (answer NO and  continue)

5)  Here's all your investment accounts (click done and loop repeats)

I had to save my work and skip to next tab at top of program.

Thank you for investigating.  Jeff

sure would help but not practical. so many users would be reporting bugs (the same ones over and over - where's- form D-400,  where's form 8582, why does IRS have form and you don't) that the server would become full.  others might be just asking questions that have nothing to do with bugs - when will i receive my 2021 refund?

Now the simple statement above is obscured.  The turbotax web site is badly organized and provides no feedback capability.  It's model of how taxes are organized admit no differences and no way to describe them.  It is a classic mis-understanding of how to design a user interface so that here is no means for correction.  It obscures certain products in it's zeal to make decisions simple and ultimately leads to customers making bad product decisions.  The key problems are:

1.  No ability to purchase the correct turbo-tax product for my situation; which I suspect is fairly common.

2. Obscuring the availability of the correct product, which exists, by misleading one into starting to use the wrong product and upon getting fairly along into it discovering that it does NOT cover my situation.

3. Not providing a means to back out of a product when it is discovered that the product is the wrong product.

4. Providing no ability to tell Intuit about the problem.  All assistance assumptions are about purported tax situations but none about product feature failures or complete product failures.
