last year i was unable to enter crypto currency data using the CD TTax version.
A Rep ensured me that this would be resolved before this tax year. Now you’re notifying me that the cryptocurrency will be available only on the downloaded version of TTax. I am very disappointed that your software developers are unable to include this feature in the CD version.
If i’m wrong please forgive me. If i’m correct, please resolve this issue ASAP.
Sincerely- Stan Romanowski
Thanks for the update.
The CD & Downloaded versions are the exact same thing... both are installed on your computer. What it will not be supported is on the ONLINE version.
This information is obsolete. Crypto entries are not supported in the desktop version. Using search in the FORMS page produces no response.
Your Cryptocurrency is enter as investment income. To do this you would click:
Opening Search in the Forms section and typing "cryptocurrency" or "cryptocurrency wks" DOES NOT WORK!q I get absolutely NO response when Open Form is selected. Did you actually try this out?
Do not use the search option, take the steps I listed above.
Your Cryptocurrency is enter as investment income. To do this you would click:
I assume you to enter cryptocurrencies similar to stocks.
The sale of Crypto results in a capital gain or loss, reported her. However, if crypto is received as a "reward" or for services rendered it is reported elsewhere as ordinary income until sold.
Question...I have read that the online version handles crypto better than the more expensive TT premium package. What is going on?
Both handle it the same way ... the online program gives the user a "crypto" button to push but takes them to the same input screens as the downloaded version which is to enter them the same way as stock sales which is technically what they really are and how they need to be treated. Both programs should give the same options to import from the broker/exchange but you can also enter the sales yourself.
Maybe someone with the 2021 downloaded program can post screenshots of the 2021 version ... these are from the online program ... I cannot believe the downloaded version doesn't mimic the online like it always has in the past ...
The CD/Download does not mimic the Online version.
In other words, they offer different feature sets.
I expect it would still be the same this year.
This crypto entry pathway is different then in the past so I hope the downloaded version did mimic the online as it has in the past. The downloaded program has always been the same or better than the online so I hope that is still the same. I know that crypto has gotten so popular that the TT program has to acknowledge it and make allowances for it ... importing from crypto sites is a big plus this year.
I think part of the point I was making earlier was that the download version is being pushed as the "PREMEIR" product, costs more & now we see is delivering less. I have used TT for years and am so disappointed how its in package support continues to degrade.
I understand this can be frustrating. We do appreciate you as a long time customer.
Can you tell us (your customers) IF there is a plan to DO SOMETHING about "Difficulties to use TT Premier Desktop for reporting cryptocurrency" this year? Should we hope and wait or not? Honest answer, please.
None of this even exists in the download version.
There is nothing regarding imputing cryptocurrencies.
