I got help last year when I ran into similar problem. You can call INTUIT 1 800 446 8848 and press 1, and 1 again for US and have the chance to speak to someone (live). If you are in Canada press 2.
I've just purchased a new laptop and have installed Turbo Tax on it but when I try to open it has froze on "Activastion" before I can enter my code.
How can I overcome this
@BBAKER4290 reduce the resolution to 800x600 and then launch the software again /.,.... see if that works
How can I get the state software (more than one state) onto a second computer?
they say 5 different computers but i was just told today that i could not have my daughter download it on her laptop because she lives in a different location. so...the claim is deceptive. do they think that people want to download it on 5 different computers at home???
Yes You are not suppose to share it. You can install it on 5 computers you own. See the End Users License Agreement. Section B #2
https://turbotax.intuit.com/corp/license/desktop.jsp
it is not deceptive. it clearly states 5 computers YOU own.....where did you read a statement from TT that is deceptive??????
who is the 'they'?
In addition to the General License Grant you may: (i) install and use a copy of the Software on up to five (5) computers owned by you (at home or at work); (ii) use the Software only to prepare, print and/or electronically file your federal 2020 tax year returns and related state tax returns as described below; (iii) make one backup copy of the Software for your personal use as permitted under this license grant. Any software that is delivered by electronic transmission (regardless of whether a replacement copy is ordered) shall be deemed delivered on the date that Intuit makes such program available for download.

2.2 You acknowledge and agree that the Software is licensed, not sold. You agree not to use, nor permit any third party to use, the Software in a manner that violates any applicable law, regulation or this Agreement. You agree you will not:
I got the same answer from turbotax customer support. They said only 1 install. I explained to them that is not what the user agreement says, but they said what I was reading was wrong!
Did you buy your CD at Costco? If the answer to this question is yes, I would contact Turbo Tax again. Maybe you were given incorrect information. The CD from Costco comes with the additional downloads - up to 5 downloads either by CD or through the Internet.
@EHarris266 And I found an official Turbo Tax FAQ......
If that link didn't copy right.....
You can install Turbo Tax on 5 computers you own.

I need on two computers because I started on my home desktop, but have to finish return on my work laptop. However, I am unable to get the program to work on my laptop. The program says I am using the wrong account associated with Lic. #.
It depends on your license agreement that is listed on the box or in the program when you agree to it. Some versions may only allow you to install on one computer but normally you should be able to install to five different computers.
Can each installed copy prepare the same tax returns?
I and my husband are filing a joint return. I prepared mine on my laptop, can he download TurboTax on his laptop and add his information? Can we both work on the same return at the same time? Thank you
@alonzhaofamily NO! You cannot both work on the same joint tax return using the CD/download and different computers. When you use the CD/download the tax file is only stored on the hard drive of the computer being used to prepare the return. The two computers would not have a way to share data with each other for the same tax return. If you want to do things so that you can both work on the same return then use the online software and you can each log on to the online account to work on that return---although you cannot both be logged on at the same time.
Although----too many cooks spoil the broth.....and two people messing with the same tax return sounds like a recipe for disaster to me ----- right hand needs to know what left hand is doing ---- it would be better for just one of you to enter all of the data for both of you into the software for a joint return.
When you prepare a joint return it is not a "his" and "hers" situation----when you say "I prepared mine...." I am hearing alarm bells. A joint return is ONE tax return for two people ---- you will not have "my" return and "his" return.
To begin a new joint return on TurboTax:
You will not be able to merge two previous TT account to start your new joint return. You can transfer ONE of your 2019 returns into a new return, so choose the most complicated one. The other spouse’s information needs to be entered manually.
When you enter your own information in My Info, you have to answer the question "Were you married?" If you click the button for Married, then a drop down will appear that asks, "Do you want to file this return together with your spouse?" Then you choose yes to file a joint return. You would then enter your spouse's information into My Info. Whenever you are entering income information there should then be a spot for you and for your spouse's income information. Income screens will have spots with each spouse’s name—be careful to enter under the correct names.
