So, on Feb 17, Green Dot bank rejected my tax refund because my husband was the primary account holder and my name appaered first on our return. When we called the IRS they informed us it would take 8 to 10 weeks to recieve the refund via mail. However we recently got a letter in the mail a month after the lady from the IRS said 8 to 10 weeks, stating it will take 8 to 10 weeks. So should I expect my refund from the date the lady said on the phone or by letter? Is there a way to speed the process up? Someone I can hire for this? I cannot afford to wait any longer because of pressing medical issues. The IRS will not update me and they usually say, I don't know you'll get it when you get it. I feel like if I owed the IRS and said the same thing it wouldn't fly. Ugh. Any information would be helpful. Thanks.

Since the bank rejected it, they have to send it back to the IRS. Then the IRS has to re-process it, cut a check and then mail it. So they do state this process can take anywhere from 2 to 10 weeks. More details can be found also be found here Refund Returns
The other option would be to reach out to a taxpayer advocate to see if there is anything they can do to help speed up this process. They are generally good with helping taxpayers in situations where they may need their refund sooner. You can go to this website to locate a Taxpayer Advocate in your area http://www.irs.gov/Advocate/Local-Taxpayer-Advocate
You can also call this toll-free number to find out if TAS can help you: 1-877-777-4778.
