Your email address is not required to be entered on your 1040, therefore, the system does not include it. It does not affect the processing of your return. Any correspondence from the IRS will only be issued through regular mail from USPS.
I want to know if the IRS receives my return
Did you e-file your return or file by mail?
I understand that my email address is not required on my SR 1040, but I WANT to include it when e-filing. Please tell me how to include my email address. Thank you.
@lizziebliss2022 You do realize that the IRS will never email you or phone you, right?
@xmasbaby0 With the preponderance of email and other electronic messaging solutions, the usage of snail mail is going and down. This will inevitably lead to less reliable service for traditional mail. It is already happening in remote areas, especially outside of the U.S. If the IRS has a policy of never using email or phone, they should change it or make an exceptions at least in a notification that there needs to be a followup. If they have the email, they could certainly send such a notification without including any sensitive data. That would be much better than penalizing someone for non-response who lives in an area with sketchy postal mail service.
