The TurboTax desktop editions to be installed on a personal computer and the TurboTax online web-based editions are totally separate editions, with different features and price points.
Using the TurboTax desktop editions, there is no need to access a TurboTax online account.
The Online version is completely separate from the Desktop program. Where did you see or how did Intuit "offered" an Online version with the Desktop program? Maybe it is for the Download version? The Desktop Download is the same as the CD. Starting this year for 2024 they are only selling the Download but after you buy the Download and get the License Code you can buy an install CD for $10.
If your computer does not meet the system requirements to install the Desktop program you can use the Online version instead.
I had a couple of good responses to my question above. My problem was not in a lack of understanding my Desktop version, which I've used for years. Rather it's my lack of understanding of how the online version differs. It's a matter of my ignorance of computer technology and not a tax program-related question.
The several responses I received were very helpful in gaining an understanding that the online version is completely separate from the Desktop in terms of accessing the tax programs. The online version is a different way of how the program is accessed and functions, verses having the Desktop version function using the software downloaded and functioning on my desktop computer.
That's pretty basic. I just wanted to be sure. The responses made that clear. Thank you very much for your help.
