Yes, heat pumps and air conditioning units are listed as Energy-Efficient Building Property on the IRS forms and in TurboTax.

Here's where to enter your expenses:

  1. Open you return in TurboTax.
  2. Select the down arrow to the right of Deductions & Credits.
  3. Select Pick up where you left off.
  4. Select Start or Edit to the right of Home Energy Credits.
  5. Answer Yes, and Continue.
  6. Answer the next few questions according to your situation.
  7. On the screen titled Tell Us How Much You Paid for Energy-Saving Improvements, enter the amount of your expenses in the box to the right of Energy-Efficient Building Property.
  8. Continue to the end of the section.

The entries for heat pump credit and AC are separate and different.  Heat pump related credit is up to $2000 and central AC-related credit is only up to $600.  These are two separate entries.

The Home Energy Credit Section of TurboTax is not currently up to date.  A release updating this section is expected on February 7th.  Please come back after that date to enter your Insulation expenses to claim the Home improvement Energy Credit.
