How do I import my information from Scottrade?

Here's how to import a Form 1099 into TurboTax Online:

  • Open your return in TurboTax.
  • In the top right corner is a Search tab. Click it.
  • Enter the type of 1099 (such as 1099-B, 1099-DIV, etc.)  without quotes.
  • Choose "Jump to 1099-B"  (or whatever type form it is).
  • Start the interview, after a couple of screens, it will ask you if you want to import.

Your posting in an already-answered thread from 3 years ago.    If it's a 1099-B, you're probably quite early for that.    Most financial institutions do not have 1099-B importing available yet.  I would be surprised if Scottrade does.   Even if Scottrade is ready, which is less likely, TurboTax may not be.

Log into Scottrade's website and go to the Tax Center.  See if there are any headlines or FAQs about when importing will be available.   Otherwise, you can phone them tomorrow.

The document ID is 11 characters.  It may be both numbers and letters.

One of the problems is that Scott trade was bought out by TD Ameritrade this past year. The other is that they are 1099-R and I have paper copies but it doesn’t appear that TurboTax will let me do a transfer of data online

How do I import my information from Scottrade?

These are the instructions I see on the Scottrade importing screen in the desktop version of TurboTax.  It would also apply to the Online version.

"Former Scottrade customers that receive a Scottrade tax form 1099-R can import their information directly into Intuit Tax Products.  Please enter your Scottrade account number and 11-character Document ID from the top right corner of your Form 1099-R (NO SPACES.)
Log into your website for helpful instructional videos and additional tax resources."

If you want to speak to TurboTax support for assistance, use the form at the link below to schedule a call back, or it may provide a number.  Hours are 5AM-9PM Pacific (8AM-12 Midnight Eastern) 7 days/week.

@jjcylk See the additional info I just left you.   By the way, you didn't say how you are doing it, but when importing it, you still use the Scottrade selection in TurboTax.  Do not do it under TD Ameritrade.  Be sure you chose Scottrade for the institution then use the steps above.

How do I import my information from Scottrade?

I figured out that my normal account number and password was not what Scottrade/Ameritrade needed.  I needed to use the account number and code from the 1099 that they sent me.  Watched the video and it explained everything.  All is well and filed now.
