Has anyone gotten an account adjustment notice, and instead of getting a refund they are now having to pay back? Can this be fought? I don’t really have the money to pay thousands of dollars out

What form letter did you receiving from the taxing authority? Was that authority the IRS for your federal taxes? Or one of the 37 states that tax personal income? If the latter, it matters which state.
