Form 8915-E

I reported a withdrawal from my traditional IRA in 2020 on my 2021 return, and used the form 8915-E.  I chose to spread the taxable amount over the three years and paid 1/3 at that time. Last year...tax season, it took TurboTax forever to include the correct applicable form (which I now know, became 8915-F).  When the new form finally became available, I answered all appropriate questions related to this withdrawal and assumed that TurboTax was accurately reflecting that on my tax return. Fast forward to now, I am trying to complete my 2022 tax return and realize that I do not have the Form 8915-F included in my 2021 tax return. The review of my return last year never caught this and I apparently sent my return last year without that 1/3 amount included. I never received notice from the IRS that I had a missing form and am only just now figuring out the error. I have seen others posting about this same issue, that it may have been a major flaw in the online tool at that time. It's now been an entire year; I trusted this program to get it right, and now I don't know how to proceed? Do I have any recourse, or do I just have to submit an amended return for 2021?

Ok, I am able to see my Federal AGI amount, even though the change is not reflected on the 'General Info" page...where it shows all of the categories of income and deductions.

As stated above,my Fed. AGI should have only increased by $5000 (where I added 1/3 of my original distribution) but it still shows an increase of $9250 instead. I did not make any other changed except to correctly add the disaster distribution from my 8915-E form from 2020 return.

You need to look at the first page of your Form 1040 and Schedule 1 and compare it with the original return you filed to see where the additional income appears.  Some things, like the taxable portion of social security income, can increase when your income increases.

Amending the return is the only way to correct that issue.   I would do it first so the correct figures get transferred into the 2022 return even if the return will not be processed for several months.

How to amend (change or correct) a return you already filed

And the 2022 form 8915-F will not be functional until at least 2/23 ...

I found my error on the 2021 return and am in the process of amending.  Do you know if TurboTax includes the interest and penalties in the "updated" amounts owed at the top of the screen?  The reason I'm asking is because the changes should have only added $5000 (1/3 of my distribution) to the amended federal AGI, but when I started my state amend, the Federal AGI is $9250 more than the original? Why the $4250 discrepancy?

You'll have to help clarify your issue for us to help - which state return is this and does the increased AGI show on your federal return as well?

"  [I] realize that I do not have the Form 8915-F included in my 2021 tax return. "

The first yhing to check is Form 1040 Line 4,5 to see if the $5,000 actually was added to your originally filed AGI.

"I found my error on the 2021 return"

what was the error?

you must review your revised 1040 for correctness and then review your 1040-X for correctness.

many users report here that the TurboTax AMEND process does not work for them.
