Trying to file my tax returns, but it says there's an error with my state tax form and it leads me to a page with this message:
Information Worksheet: TP First Name - this state return is not yet ready to file. The federal return contains the following situation which requires an additional update to this state: Due to federal legislation recently passed, the allowable casualty loss claim on federal Form 4684 - Casualties and Theft Loss for major disasters has changed. We are working diligently on updating the impact on your state and will have the updates available as soon as possible.
What does this mean? Should I just wait for TurboTax to resolve the problem? How long do I need to wait? Also, why would this federal form result in an error for my state taxes?
I tried Googling law changes for Form 4684 and didn't find anything. Called customer support and I got bounced around with no one having any clue until they said I should pay $40 to speak with the experts...

1. It means patience. The CA fires prompted Biden to sign a new law in December and it is retroactive to 2019 regarding all federal disasters and the Palestine, OH train wreck.
2. You will have to wait on the locations you need to file. The federal and state governments are having to update forms and software.
3. Your federal income is probably connected to your state income.
See HR 5863 - all information for the house bill.
See Disaster synopsis for an understandable version.
If you do not understand how MeF, XML, Validation Schemas and generally speaking, software development, (or in turbotax's case, does not work)... You probably should fabricate answers.
The form was released by the irs, at which time, MeF submissions which included data for any released form would validate against the XML schema. Invalid/fraudulent calculations would get kicked back later in the form of a non-acceptance or an audit.... FORMS ARE NOT SBUMITTED IN AN EFILE.... an XML is.
Essentially, turbotax, either chose to make customers wait, be it for reasons of caution, or corporate gain.... or their programmers could not parse the data into an xml structure that would validate against the IRS schema.. And I'm betting its a bit of both...
Has anyone seen any progress with this? it has been weeks. you get nowhere with TT.... they just want you to pay $60. As long as it was a federally declared disaster, there should be no issues with this...?? Looking at the requirements for Iowa, it's the same thing.
Intuit is currently waiting on guidance from several states on whether the state will conform to the latest Disaster Relief Act. As guidance is issued, Form 4864 for the states will be updated and made available.
