Eventually, the IRS will catch it and send you a letter...because they get copies and will match them to your tax return that you filed. Might take a year...but they'll catch it and want you to deal with it.
You do need to Amend your tax return.....but wait until after 1 March...because the amendment forms are not ready right now, and also because you might discover something else you missed and need to include, AND you need to wait for your original refund too (or pay the original balance due). Amended tax returns must be printed and filed by mail.
"i know i will get a refund" ? You might be surprised that you owe...could go either way but it does depend on your exact circumstances.
Bookmark this page, and come back in march to get instructions on the procedure and to start your amended tax return...your amended state tax return will also be done at the same time (if there is an income tax in your state).
