If you already e-filed it is too late to change it.   If you have not e-filed yet, then go to MY INFO to edit your name.  Use the name that matches your current Social Security card.

In TurboTax Basic I cannot find a MY INFO section. There is a PERSONAL INFO section.  Clicking that shows You & Your Family.  Clicking that does show a list of names with the option to edit my name.

Which I did.

That's fine.

It's when I go to eFile that it refers to me by my old name.

Do any of those kinds of identifiers go to the IRS or are they just within TurboTax with only my legal name going to the IRS?

Hopefully I have clarified the problem/question well enough.

Thanks for listening/helping.  I do appreciate it.

It might be still using your old name just in the program.  Check your actual 1040 tax return to see if it's right.

In online software it is MY INFO; in desktop software it is called Personal Info---they are the same thing---that is where you enter or edit name, date of birth, SSN, address, etc.   If you have desktop, use forms mode and just look at your Form 1040 to see what name is appearing on the tax form.
