Hello!
Today I tried to e-file for the first time. My taxes were rejected; said my AGI 2019 entry was wrong.
I paper-filed in 2019, did not have a tax refund, and I suspect the IRA just hasn't processed that return yet. (I tried to create an acct on irs.gov to check but I don't have a cellphone so would have to verify identity with postal letter.)
Should I enter 0, the AGI for 2018, or just paper file?
Thank you!
KG
(PS I'm getting a refund and if they're a year behind I'm afraid paper filing will mean I never get my refund!)

Your 2018 AGI will not work.
If it was rejected for AGI—-be aware that many 2019 returns took so long for the IRS to process that your 2019 AGI might not be in the IRS system. Try using zero instead.
If filing with zero is rejected then file again but select the option that you did not file last year. The IRS does not see that question and it will allow you to e-file with no AGI question.
Or—-if you filed as a “non-filer” just to get the stimulus check on a 2019 return, try using $1 as the AGI.

If that does not work and you still cannot e-file, then print, sign, and mail your tax return.
Our 2020 Fed tax has been rejected 4 times how do we get around the fact that they have not processed our 2019 as we had to pay in and paper filed. The check we mailed with the returned has been cashed.

If the IRS has not fully processed your 2019 tax return then the IRS will not have your 2019 AGI in their database.
Enter a 0 (zero) for the 2019 AGI and e-file the tax return again.
