For the third year in a row, reporting my Crypto.com transactions to TurboTax has been a complete nightmare. How is it this difficult to report Crypto from one of the largest exchanges, to the largest tax service? I don't understand.
When I begin, I'm greeted with the message "Heads up! We’ve worked with Crypto.com to match their CSV file. Make sure you use theirs, without changes. You can upload a total of 4000 crypto sales across all your crypto CSV files." Great, sounds simple. I follow the exact directions. From my Crypto.com app, I create a CSV file for all of my transactions from 1/1/24-12/31/24. I export the file, save it to my computer, and upload it to TurboTax without making any changes. I'm given the message "We're having trouble with your file. Here are some common fixes that might help:

I have experienced the same response to some CSV files trying to upload to the Desktop version of TurboTax. I have had some success when I follow these steps:
Hope that this helps you.
Tried that, didn’t work. Thanks though.
If TurboTax won't accept your CSV file, proceed as follows.
Adjust your csv files so the columns are in the same order as on Form 8949.
Put a header with your name tax year and SS Number.
Use the summary option and then you can mail in the printout of the CSV files.
See the TurboTax instructions that will pop up.
You would use Category C and/or F when (I assume) you don't have a 1099-B.
At tax time, you will subtotal your SELL transactions by Sales Category.
IRS requires Box C/F details to be listed on your own Form 8949,
or on your other forms (e.g. spreadsheets) which have the same information and in the same manner as Form 8949.
Either way, if you choose to summarize (not itemize) and e-File, you have to mail the transaction details to the IRS within three business days of IRS accepting your e-Filed tax return.
If you put the printout in PDF format, TurboTax Online may ask you for it.
When mailing, you're supposed to use Form 8453 as a cover sheet.
Form 8453 is not to be signed.
Also, I found the TurboTax “universal csv template” and formatted all of my transactions into that form. Took me 2 hours, everything is EXACTLY the way it’s supposed to be, but it’s still not working. I have 110 transactions, so I even tried splitting the file into two in case there was too many transactions… still getting the same error. This is ridiculous.
I have the exact same problem, csv upload won't work, tried multiple times.
If unable to accept CSV upload, can turbo-tax provide a text-area for folks like me to paste the CSV file content.
I'm paying 250$+ for filing taxes using TurboTax, so a CSV upload is a very common feature to expect. 😕
I did eventually get it to work using their universal CSV template (https://digitalasset.intuit.com/DOCUMENT/A6oMzp4uC/Custom_CSV_Template.csv), but it took hours to get it just right. (It finally accepted it after 16 different versions of the form). Here is a brief guide.
I used google sheets. Download your file from crypto.com. Open the file, and open the template. Copy and paste the data from the crypto.com form into the template. You will then need to go through, line-by-line, and check every single transaction and format it correctly. Everything must be EXACTLY as shown in the template. Time and date format must be the same format as the template. Make sure all of the “transaction type” labels are correct and spelled correctly (“withdrawal”, not “withdraw”, etc). Format all Dust Conversions as sales, then buys of CRO. Leave all market values blank unless it gives you an error, then you will need to look up the historical value and input that info for those transactions (some smaller coins may need this). Transaction hash and ID are not required.
THEN, after formatting everything exactly the way I was supposed to, it accepted the form, but gave me errors for all of the crypto I bought in previous years (missing transaction data). So I uploaded all of my transactions from the previous year into the form. It gave me the same error again, until I had uploaded EVERY SINGLE transaction I have ever made in crypto.com, dating back to 2022. This was about 300 transactions.
Make sure to export the file from google sheets as a CSV. When you submit the file to TurboTax, don’t select crypto.com as the exchange. Use “other”, then label it as crypto.com. This was the only way I could get it to work. There are two options for the file type, raw data and another one. I don’t remember which one I used, but one works and one doesn’t, so try them both.
I hope this helps.
TurboTax really dropped the ball this year, and I won’t be using it ever again. You guys lost a customer of 10+ years because you couldn’t get this right.
At the screen What's the name of the crypto service you used?, selecting Other and entering the name of the crypto service will sometimes work when only the name of he crypto service fails.
In your case, the option Raw transaction activity was likely the successful choice.
Same issues here. Garbage process. Why does this have to be so complicated for such a common practice at this point. I’d be done with taxes 7 yesterday’s ago if it wasn’t for this problem.
Same here. It's ridiculous. I have tried 50 different ways.
