Thanks for your response. As you can see, I am even getting conflicting answers in this chat. I think DoninGA just said I can do more than one persons taxes on the turbo tax online - so which one is right?

What I posted is -
you can file as many tax returns using the online editions as you want - As Long As you create a New online account with a New User ID for each tax return. You can use the same email address on up to 5 online accounts.
Yes you can do more than 1 person on Online BUT you need a separate account for each one and need to pay for each one. You can use the same email address for each account.
So do you have to pay a separate fee for each even if it is under five?
YES YES YES

If you are not using the TurboTax Free online edition in the account then you will have to pay the TurboTax account fees. If all the accounts that were created do not use the Free online edition, then there will be TurboTax account fees for each account.
See the prices for Online here. And State is currently $39 each. It will cost you a lot to do them online. Maybe you can use someone else's computer to install the program, either Windows or Mac. Someone in your family probably has a newer computer. Or time to get a new one.

That screen shot you posted is something that was generated by Artificial Intelligence that you found on Google or someplace---it did not originate from TurboTax and is not correct.
If you are having a hard time believing that we are correct, hover your mouse over or click our user names and see how many questions we have replied to in this forum.
Thanks for understanding that this is a confusing issue where I have gotten conflicting information from turbo tax representatives via customer service. That is why I turned to this forum and did not realize there was a limit to asking follow up questions to seek clarification that frankly was created by customer services folks in the first place.
We know that you are confused and are trying to help. I have alerted the moderators that a customer service rep may need some additional coaching. Either that rep did not understand or there was some sort of miscommunication. What we do not want is for you to start preparing multiple returns using online software and then be shocked at the cost. If you have four returns to prepare with state returns, that adds up if you use online software---maybe even enough to consider as a down payment toward a new Mac instead.
Thank you for your help.
I saw the note above about "3" state returns, but when you look at this page: https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download/#modals/tta-state-download-state-e-file-sold
It says you can only file "1" state return, but up to 5 Federal. Is it that you get to download 1 State and then have to purchase 2 more e-file returns?
I'm trying to file taxes for 2 of my kids. I want to "own" the account, and will fill them out for each child, and want to file both Federal and State. Don't care if e-file or mail-in for State. Is the Deluxe going to allow me to do that?
Yes the Desktop Deluxe can do all that. If you buy Deluxe directly from Turbo Tax you get 1 free state PROGRAM download which can do unlimited state returns. Then each state return (including the first one) is $25 to efile or you can print and mail state for free. You get 5 free federal efiles, the rest you have to print and mail.
If you buy Deluxe in the store or Online you have to be careful and buy Deluxe that has the state program. Some places have Deluxe without state for states that don’t have an income tax.
Hello I bought 2 turbo tax licenses for my return and my daughter's return.
When adding the 2nd one it does not allow me to have 2 and I have not been
able to add the 2nd code it just gives an option to cancel or cancel the other one.
what is the method to open 2 at one time since the deadline is soon?
Sorry you bought 2 License Codes. You only need 1 program to do all the returns. Try to get a refund for one of them. There is a way to have 2 licenses. Under Help - Switch Product - Activate new product. Don't know what that will do or what benefit you will get. Don't think it will allow you to efile more than 5. Or give you a different free state program.

How do I request a refund for my TurboTax product?
