Can I import 2024 1099 from a TTax 2023 file?

I can't import my 1099 from Morgan Stanley this year with Turbotax 2024 Premier. I enter in my login information, and I get a dialog showing "establishing secure connection" for about five seconds, then it disappears and nothing has happened. No error message. I've been importing 1099s from Morgan Stanley for years into Turbotax without any problem until now.

I've already spent an hour on the phone with Turbotax support with no results, and I'm looking for "outside the box" solutions so am trying some seemingly nutty things. Here's what I tried.

I loaded Turbotax 2023 Premier and was able to download my 2024 1099s just fine. (So it seems the connection problem with TT 2024 is on TT's side and not on Morgan Stanley's side.) Now that I have my 2024 1099s in a TT 2023 tax file, is there a way to import them into TT 2024?

Of course, when I start TT 2024 it asks to import data from last year's tax return, so I pointed it at the TT 2023 file I just made, but this doesn't import the 1099s as 2024 data. It just shows some summary values and says they need to be updated for 2024.

I'm hoping there might be a less obvious way to force TT 2024 to import the actual data from my TT 2023 file which contains my 2024 1099s. Any ideas?

Can you clarify why you are trying to enter your 2024 imported information into a 2023 tax return?  Each year is prepared independently of a prior year.  If you have any carryforward amounts from a prior year, those should flow into your 2024 tax as long as you sign into TurboTax using the same credentials as were used to prepare your 2023 tax return.

I recommend using this link to confirm you are signed into 2024 using the same log in credentials that were used for your 2023 tax return.

Then use these instructions to import your 2024 brokerage information into your 2024 tax return.

Thanks for your reply, but as I mentioned in my original post, the importing of my 1099s from my broker fails this year (I've had success for over ten years doing this). I always use the desktop version of Turbotax. Even though Turbotax Premier 2024 cannot import my 2024 1099s, I found that TT Premier 2023 could import my 2024 1099s, so that's why I was wondering if there was a way to move data from a 2023 file to my 2024 return. I followed the links you provided, but I've already been doing that. When I was on the phone with Turbotax tech support, the agent shared my screen and directed me through the import process, which I had already been doing on my own, and it failed for him too. He basically said TT 2024 is broken.

When you type 'Morgan Stanley' in the institution search area, there are several options that come up in the search results.

Double-click on the one that applies to you, and see if you're taken to the Sign In page.

Some institutions require that you now allow 'third party access' to your account there.  

Check your Account Settings.

Thanks for the reply. As mentioned earlier in this thread, I have successfully downloaded my 2024 1099 forms into Turbotax Premier 2023, so I am familiar with the process and know which Morgan Stanley source to select. (And yes, I do mean my 2024 1099s into TT 2023.) This also shows that the third-party data sharing feature is enabled at my broker.
