Using 2024 TurboTax Home & Business on my desktop PC I encountered the following problem.
To get started on my taxes and prior to receiving my 1099-INTs I entered my estimated 1099-INT information on the individual forms using the “Add Supporting Details” feature to list my individual accounts.
Subsequently, after receiving the actual 1099-INTs I entered the information in “Step-by-Step” mode as totals (no additional details) for each of the individual 1099-INTs I received.
I was able to proceed to complete my taxes for filing with the corrected numbers. But, after closing TurboTax and later re-opening it (to print my file copies) the 1099INTs had been changed to look like the Supporting Details even though they were the incorrect numbers and the returns were incorrect.
Ultimately, I had to correct the “Supporting Details” in the form mode and the 1099INTs in the Step-by-Step mode to correspond to each other before this problem would correct.
TurboTax did not inform me of any discrepancies between those numbers and it appeared to use the information from the “Supporting Details” ignoring the more correct 1099INT info. This might have been OK but I should have been informed of this change or asked which was the correct number. Remember I entered the 1099INT in the Step-by-Step mode and this information was used during that session to complete my taxes but after closing out that session the numbers appeared to revert to the previously entered “Supporting Details” which had not been used to do the final forms.
