bought on line version - wanted downloadable version

is there any way to use my online version activation code to get the downloadable version?

You can probably do that, but you will need to speak with an agent in order to get the download sent to you.  

If you're using TurboTax Online:

1. Sign in to your account (if you aren't already signed in).
2. Once you're in, select Search in the upper-right corner of your screen.
3. Select the Contact Us option.
4. Enter your question and then select Let's talk.
5. Now choose between:
   • Posting your question to our community of experts (Post a question)
   • Talking one-on-one with a live TurboTax Expert, CPA, or Enrolled Agent (Get the number) (requires the PLUS add-on if using Free Edition)

What activation code do you have?  How did you get it?  There is not a code for the online version.

Did you buy the CD or buy the program online from somewhere else? The License Code is for both the CD and the download software.

I think you must have the 14 digit License Code for the Desktop program.  You can download it.  Try using this FAQ
