Hello, I am about to file and it is stating that I need to upgrade due to the Lifetime Learning credit not being covered by the free edition. Although, earlier it stated how I was not eligible for the Lifetime Learning credit. Is this an error?

Hello! I'm having the same issue where, earlier in my tax info, turbotax say I did not qualify for the Lifetime Learning Credit, but as soon as I try to file, it tells me I have to upgrade because I am earning it? I want to file without something I qualify for anyways. Please help me out with this.
You may need to contact customer service directly for assistance. Please see the following information here for more details.
I am having exactly the same problem with "Lifetime Learning Credit". This appears to be a bug that is requiring me to pay for an upgrade to turbotax deluxe for a credit I don't qualify for. If I try to call about it, I am required to pay to report the bug. Could somebody at Intuit PLEASE look into this get it fixed or respond with an explanation? Thanks.

I had this exact same issue. I couldn't continue filling until I bought Deluxe. I contacted Support like a previous response suggested and they suggested I fill out a request for a refund. I did this just to get an automatic reply saying online Deluxe doesn't qualify for refunds. I contacted Support again saying I would have never bought Deluxe if it didn't say I qualified for the credit. The second Support contact only suggested I fill out the same refund request form just to get another automatic rejection. It seems no one is really trying to solve this issue, they would rather send customers to useless forms and swindle them out of money.
I am having the same issue! I don't have extra money for this. Turbo Tax please fix this issue!
If you would like to remove the Lifetime Learning Credit, you would need to delete Form 8863 - Education Credits.
If you are using TurboTax Online, please see this Help Article for instructions.
If you are using TurboTax CD/Download, please see this Help Article for instructions.
I don't even have form 8863 in my forms to delete and it's still saying I have to upgrade to Deluxe. It's ridiculous that TurboTax is trying to make me pay $80 to file something that I DO NOT QUALIFY FOR. What's even more frustrating is to see that this same exact issue happened last year and there seems to be no solution. The only solution is filing with another service. I've paid so much money to TurboTax over the years and the one year I'm getting back hardly anything and should be able to file for free, they're trying to take HALF of what I'm getting.
Depending on what you have already entered in your return, i would suggest to clear and start over and this would alleviate your issue. Don't enter anything in for educational expenses.
I called turboxtax here and the receptionist told me that the reason for why I am being charged for Lifetime learning is because of the fact that I even completed the form to begin with. If you do not want to be charged for this fee, do not fill out the education form (if you already filled it out, you will need to re-do the entire application). Since I was advised not to skip filling it out, my receptionist was kind enough to offer a 20% discount for e-filing. If you have Chase Credit card, I know they are offering a 10$ off code. Good luck!
This solution does not work - Form 8863 - Education Credits does not show up in the list of forms that can be deleted - What do we do now? I am not a post graduate student and therefore do not require an the Lifetime Learning Credit. This issue has been a problem for me over the last two years. Seems like Turbo tax could have fixed this problem a long time ago to help us students with low-to-no income instead of forcing us to pay for Deluxe.
It is not clear what you are asking.
You do not need to be a post graduate student to be eligible for the lifetime Learning Credit.
Just want to say that it is now 2024 and this is still an issue. As others suggested, I cleared what I had done so far and it fixed the issue, but it still tried party hard to get me to say I am a student (asked 3 different times). At this point, I don't think this is a glitch in the system, I think it is intentional. Not particularly pleased with that.
