I am trying to finish my return.  On 4 1099-Rs it is saying the taxes withheld need to be less than gross distribution or state distribution.  In each case state distribution is  blank and always less than gross distribution.  please advise - unable to finish taxes.

Double check all of your entries including the taxes withheld on all of your 1099's. Look closely at decimal points.

If your state gross distributions are blank, leave the box on TurboTax blank.

No...Some states (particularly NY) insist a number in the state distribution box....even if blank on teh actual 1099-R.

Some helpers insist it is the same as box 1 of the 1099-R, but I would claim it is the value in box 2a (if present) or the Federally-taxable amount of box 1 if box 2a is empty or "Undetermined".

Commonly, that is just the same as box 1.  But... but...occasionally, box 2a is less than box 1 by an amount equal to box 5, and the smaller 2a value (when present) should be used.
