I am having a problem in the TurboTax H&B. My only income is on a 1099R from my pension as disabled firefighter. In previous years, TT has placed this 1099R sum on line 5a on Form 1040.
But this year , TT is not generating my 1099 R on 1040 Line 5a.
It is not placing this sum anywhere on the 1040. Even after I finalize, TT states there are no errors but the 5a box is blank.
I ran my numbers twice, and finalized twice. Both times TT states there are no errors. But the form 1040 line 5a continues to be blank.
The 1099 R figures are not listed anywhere on the 1040 and TT states NO errors. I would appreciate any help you can give. Thank you.

To enter your retirement income, Go to Federal> Wages and Income>Retirement Plans and Social Security>IRA 401 k) Pension Plan Withdrawals to enter your 1099R.
Have you tried switching to Forms mode to see what is going on?
You haven't said what's on line 5b.
At least this year, if all of the 1099-R is taxable , line 5a is being left blank, and the entire amount is put in line 5b.
5b is BLANK. 5b is zero also. Thank you for asking. I should have included that. Any suggestions?
I examined form 1099 – R and it appears to be filled out correctly with all sums included. Since this form is filled out correctly, shouldn’t it populate the 1040?
What was the code in box 7?
Certain codes in box 7 of the 1099-R can lead the $$ elsewhere...
A code "U" does that
I think certain disability codes in box 7, before Retirment age, might too. (but I'm not really knowledgeable on that situation)
If you entered the pension distribution amount in box 1 on your Form 1099-R entry, and put the taxable amount in box 2 or leave that box blank and box 2(b) is checked "Taxable amount not determined" then the distribution should be treated as taxable. The only thing that would cause it to not to be taxable under those circumstances would be the code in box 7 or your answers to the questions after you made your form entry. I suggest you review your entry and if it still does not show as taxable, delete the entry and put it in again.
If you are under retirement age then disability pension can go to 1040 line 1 and count as earned income which qualifies for certain credits. Maybe in prior years it was coded or entered wrong and went on the pension line instead of with wages.
