I started to be a teacher in 2018 and I had to get my teaching certificate and there was other courses they had me travel out of state to attend to maintain my teachering position at the school. I had to pay for hotel and transportation. can I deduct these expenses and where on my fed and NJ state tax form?

Yes you can deduct the cost of the classes to earn your teacher certificate as part of the Lifetime Learning Credit for both your federal and New Jersey tax returns.
However, you cannot deduct the hotel and transportation expenses. The IRS has determined travel is not a qualified educational expense.
