Can I decide not to use my Health Savings Account this year on medical expenses so I can get a higher medical deduction?

My Health Savings Account rolls over. Most years I don't have enough medical expenses to be deductible. This year I do have enough, so I thought if I don't take a Health Savings Account distribution, I could deduct more on my taxes.

Keep in mind that, for the 2019 tax year, only those paid expenses that are in excess of 10% of AGI (up from 7.5%) will qualify as an itemized deduction.

but it might not make any difference because you itemized deductions would have to exceed your standard deduction

single or married filing separately $12,000

head of Household $18,000

married $24,000

Yes ... just because you have an HSA doesn't mean you must use it.
