WHY ARE FIGURES IN FORMS DIFFERENT FROM FIGURES IN EASY STEP MEDICAL DEDUCTIONS

I have ENTERED MEDICAL DEDUCTIONS AND WHEN TO CHECK HOW THE FORM RECORDED MY ENTRIES. FORMS  HAS A DIFFERENT TOTAL  THAN SHOWN ON THE SUMMARY SCREEN FOR EACH CATEGORY I'VE COMPLETED. THIS MAKES NO SENSE. THE DIFFERENCE IS ABOUT $5,000. I NEED A CPA TO ANSWER THIS. THANKS

WHY ARE FIGURES IN FORMS DIFFERENT FROM FIGURES IN EASY STEP MEDICAL DEDUCTIONS

Which form are you looking at?  Your schedule A? Medical expenses are only deductible for the amount in excess of 7.5% of your AGI.  Example, if your AGI is $100,000, only your medical expenses over $7,500 will count towards your Itemized Deductions.  So, if you entered $$12,500 in medical expenses, your actual deduction would only be $5,000.

The summary screen is showing what you entered, not what you actually will get a deduction for.
