Unless it was a geothermal unit, there is no Federal Energy Saving Credit for that for 2018 Federal taxes.

The Feds could pass a retroactive law to allow it, but I haven't seen anything to indicate they are working on it (yet).

There's still Solar/Wind and geothermal credits

....just not the former home upgrade energy credits for insulation, windows, AC, (non-geo) Heating and the like...sorry

It was still a good idea to enter that though...some states have an energy credit, and IF..if..if your state has one, it might be applied when you eventually go thru the state taxes sections.

I appreciate your answer.  Do you know why Turbo Tax indicates there is a credit and allows for the information to be included if the credit no longer exists for 2018?

Because
1) some states have their own energy credits, and entering them allows the data to transfer to the state forms..IF the state allows it.

2)  The software was already there...and US congress has had a bad habit of passing late legislation to retroactively allow these types of credits long after they have expired....so maybe it helps to have the entries in there just in case the do that..
