When finishing the deductions section in Turbotax, it tells me we get the standard deduction. The next screen tells me it has selected the itemized deductions since it is over the 25,100. However, in the tax form, it enters the standard deduction amount. Wondering if this is a glitch in the software or something else?

No, the computer compares your itemized deductions to the standard deduction. They are very close together so the computer picks the higher, itemized, Then it goes through the review and adds the charity, up to $600, to standard and realizes that number is higher than the itemized so it changes to standard- since that plus the charity up to $600 is now higher than itemized.
Add the standard plus charity together, it should be bigger than just your itemized alone.
Hi Amy,
Thank you for the information! Quick question, Turbo Tax is asking for me to enter my charitable contributions into the form since I am taking the standard deduction. Is this all of my charitable contributions or just the 600?
This question is specifically asking for the $600 of donations to be used with your standard deduction.
In the "Charitable donations topic you can also enter all of your charitable donations some of which may transfer to your state return if your state allows the itemized donations even if using the standard deduction on your federal return. TurboTax will automatically make that transfer if your state allows it.
Thanks Mark!
