Is there a $0 pre-filled in the box for prescription expenses?
If so, double click on the box to open the Supporting Details window. Or click on Edit at the top of the desktop program window and then click on Add Supporting Details.
Reply back if this is not what you are seeing for the expense.

Thank you!!! Forgot about that from last year, and ended up getting to it using the IRS form. However, grrr that TurboTax doesn't automatically go to that. Thank you for your service to the US and this community!
Initially I didn't think I would have enough medical expenses so I chose No to the question during the step by step process. Now I find I have more than I thought I would and would like to enter them. When I go to that part of the step by step and click update, it says "Thanks, we got all your Medical Expense info" and will not permit me to enter anything via step by step. If I go to sched A and enter even very large amounts, when I go back to step by step, it won't walk me though the process. Any ideas? Thanks
When you select medical expenses, it should be asking you each time to select yes or no for medical expenses. I suggest updating the program to begin. Then, if it still refuses to allow the entry, you will need to enter the information in Forms mode on the medical worksheet. The worksheet allows entries so there will not be any overrides necessary. The form will carry to sch A and you can see that your return is flowing correctly. The forms are what goes to the IRS so those need to be correct. Overriding an entry will void the accuracy guarantee but the worksheet has allows entry.
I have the same problem. I answered No to medical expenses accidentally. And now it will not let me update the expenses in step by step mode. I did update TurboTax and that did not fix it. Definitely a bug. I would much prefer to use step by step then to fill out the worksheet.
I have tested the scenario in TurboTax, and change the answer to yes to medical expenses, the ability to enter medical expenses is there. Try these steps in TurboTax:
If you still can't access medical expenses and your software is stating it is up-to-date, try manually updating your software. Use this link to manual update TurboTax Desktop:
I have updated both manually and within the TurboTax software. I am using the Premier version downloaded to my Win 11 computer. I have rebooted as well. When I try to update the Medical expenses, it never goes back to the Yes/No question. It simply says Thanks We Got All Your Medical Expense Info - Right now the standard deduction saves you the most most on taxes. There is no way to access any of the questions. I have tried manually entering some numbers using the forms view and that works. But even if I get above the standard deduction I cannot get back to the questions in the Step by Step mode. The forms mode is my only option.
I would like to take a deeper look at this. However, I need a diagnostic file which is a copy of your tax return that has all of your personal information removed. You can send one to us by following the directions below:
TurboTax Online:
TurboTax Desktop/Download Versions:
*(If using a MAC, go to the menu at the top of the screen, select Help, then, “Send Tax File to Agent”)
I did find a workaround for this. If you delete the medical wks in the forms view then you can go back to the step by step mode and it will take you straight to the questions. It still did not give me the yes/no question about the expenses but I was able to go through all the questions.
Unfortunately I corrected the issue as described in the last post before seeing this request. I created a diagnostic file anyways. Here is the token number for the diagnostic file. 193514312311482-88343130
