Turbotax Form 4684 glitch

I just found this thread.  Same issue here for my CA Returns.  I thought the code was incorrect.  But no, code is correct, TurboTax is causing the issue.   If we have to print out our returns and mail them, we should be issued a $25 refund!  Has anyone received a refund?  And has anyone found a manual work around?

Turbotax Form 4684 glitch

No refund yet, still trying to reach a REAL person from TurboTax on the matter.

For me, I corrected directly in TurboTax (input just the number, without "DR-"), then ignored the error check complain from TurboTax, printed the CA portion and mailed (make sure W2s attached), cost another $10 for a priority mail and 1 day delay. Hopefully there are some real TurboTax customer relationship person here to follow up.

Turbotax Form 4684 glitch

Ok, I was just on the phone with Customer Service and tried to walk them through this issue.  They can see my CA Return while using the Desktop Software and I pointed out this glitch.  They CANNOT see the PDF print version where it shows DR- DR-1234.   I tried to use one of the methods described above where you just ignore the error on the Fed Form 4684 (e.g. not entering DR-) but when you attempt to eFile your state, it will not let you until you manually enter the DR-.  Very frustrating is an understatement!

I requested a refund for the $25 and was sent an email to process that.  However, looking at TurboTax's "Guaranteed Correct", this seems to fall under that area as well.  We are entering correct information and the software is not.  So, I am going to request my initial purchase as well.  I called H&R Block and they will take my Intuit TurboTax file and process my CA State return for me.  I will pay them with the Refund I receive from TurboTax.   It seems the only way to eFile correctly to CA.

CA has an automatic extension to file when you are receiving a Refund.  From the FTB site: "California grants you an automatic extension to file your state tax return. No form is required. You must file by October 17, 2022."

We should not have to file our returns manually by mail for a product that purports to be fast, convenient and 100% accurate.   Everyone here on this thread provided excellent information to Intuit about a glitch that should have been fixed by the software engineers ASAP.   Best solution on this: TurboTax Refund to the buyers.

Turbotax Form 4684 glitch

Thanks @SKO for the update. Yes, I think it's fair now that all of us who are affected by the TurbuTax 4684 Form Glitch to demand the e-filing fee to be refunded, and potentially the refund of the entire product.

I've been a TurbuTax customer for over 20 years, and I've never seen the quality of TurbuTax deteriorating like this. Maybe it's a sign of the times, and when events are taking a turn for the worse, it's time to consider the alternatives.

For those affected with the problem, you could just bring up this link:

https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/state-taxes/help/why-is-my-ca-re[product%20key%20removed]ted-due-t...

which could save you some time with Intuit Customer Service. I believe they will still want to see your screen to confirm, however, so still be prepared to spend at least half an hour with them (in addition to the hold time.)

I'll check out the option to import my TurbuTax's data to H&R Block to efile to the state from H&R Block. Thanks, SKO, for suggesting it.

I know I've been misspelling "TurboTax" in this message, but since it sounds like a fitting moniker, I'm going to keep it as-is. That's still better than calling this product TurdboTax from the ongoing experience.

Turbotax Form 4684 glitch

Turbotax Form 4684 glitch

FYI - the notice isn’t quite correct. The error is also in the federal return, but for reasons unknown the IRS’s screening S/W doesn’t catch it.

Turbotax Form 4684 glitch

UPDATE: Intuit emailed me today to inform the glitch had been fixed. However, after running an update and making sure I had the latest TurboTax (macOS), the issue is STILL NOT FIXED!

Same behavior. Same error. Same requirement that the disaster code has to have the DR- prefix.

Worse, the link to the issue at the Intuit website is gone. No more active webpage referencing about the issue.

This is just getting worse and worse for Intuit. A few reputable companies have grown lazy and complacent, and have been self-inflicted lately. Netflix, Meta (Facebook), Disney. Now, Intuit. So disappointing!

Next year, I'll be using H&R Block for sure!

Turbotax Form 4684 glitch

I received an email from TurboTax announcing the “fix” that contained a link to an update. Unfortunately, the link didn’t work. This about sums it up for the current state of Intuit. Do any competitors have the ability to import a TurboTax tax file?

Turbotax Form 4684 glitch

Yes, those email links don't work. FWIW, I updated TurboTax just now with the latest update, tried again. CA return rejected with the same message. Unbelievable!

Turbotax Form 4684 glitch

I have filed a request for a full refund.

The process was pretty easy. Maybe that's one of the rare areas where Intuit is still doing well.

https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/tax-topics/help/how-do-i-request-a-refund-for-my-turbotax-product/...

Scroll down to the form (the one with the blue banner, white letters). It took me a few seconds to realize that was the form which I would need to fill in.

For the reason, I provided this explanation:

"Cannot efile due to TurboTax glitch in Form 4684 ( https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/tax-credits-deductions/discussion/turbotax-form-4684-glitch/00/259...). Multiple support phone calls, and an email from Intuit said it was fixed, but it's still not. Many TurboTax customers are also affected."

If you bought this from a retailer, you can get the license code from your TurboTax.com account.
