$2,000 for tax year 2018, but you won't claim that until next year. We're working on tax year 2017 at present.

why is there a deadline to file of July 2nd 2018 then? Is that something different?

What July 2 deadline are you referring to?  The filing deadline for a 2017 tax return was April 18, 2018.
