Why is TurboTax asking what type of HDHP my spouse had on Dec 1, 2021? We are covered under one family plan, not to mention I am doing 2022 taxes.

I already entered my HDHP information and indicated it was a family plan. TT is now asking what type of HDHP did my spouse have on 12/1/2021. I don't understand if they are asking if they were covered under my plan or if they had their own separate plan. I also don't understand why they are asking about Dec 2021 when I am doing 2022 taxes

The question about what type of coverage your spouse had on 12/1/2021 is referring to any coverage under a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) that was in their own name.  If your spouse was covered under the family plan in your name, then you would answer None for the spouse question.

The question is specifically asking about December 2021 because of a special 'last month rule' with regard to Health Savings Account (HSA) contributions.  So even though you are working on your 2022 tax return, the question regarding 2021 is correct.
