thanks but i know how to get to the right box. yet when i go to enter the $ amount i can not enter anything. same thing for auto ad valorem taxes and for medical expenses
If you are filing with TurboTax online, let's do these steps:
To update the program:
Note that your property tax might not change your total tax refund. It will only change if your total itemized deductions exceeds your standard deduction. In the TurboTax program, when you enter itemized deductions such as mortgage interest, property taxes, medical expenses, charitable contributions, all of these items are added together. Unless the total of itemized deductions exceeds the standard deduction for your filing status, you would not see any change in tax due or refund.
@lyleherrmann
No help at all. All assume I have done something wrong. I am totally correct, the dollar field just will not accept any character no matter what I do.
I need help from TurboTax to get this resolved.
If you're using TurboTax Online, try closing the program, clear your Cache and Cookies and try again.
Since we can't see your return in this forum, you may want to Contact TurboTax Help if you can't resolve the issue.
I have a downloaded copy of Premier. It just does not let me enter "Property tax on your main home". There is a "$" sign and a number "0". I have tried to close Turbotax, restarted my laptop, opened Turbotax (twice so far), all to no avail. Does someone know of a solution?
Please try entering your property taxes paid using the 1098 screen.
Please go to Federal Taxes > Deductions & Credits > I'll choose what I work on> Mortgage interest, refinancing, and insurance
Enter your property taxes on the screen Property (real estate) taxes paid. I have attached a screenshot below for additional guidance.
After selecting update I get a blank screen under the standard Turbotax header with tabs. I've used Turbotax and QB for over 25 years and I have filed 2 returns from this software license already. But several pages and forms are coming up blank
Please see the Help Article here which will assist you in troubleshooting blank screens.
" It just does not let me enter "Property tax on your main home". There is a "$" sign and a number "0". "
Had same.
Choose "forms" (upper right).
Scroll down in Schedule A to 2A ("State and Local Real Estate Taxes").
Click box and then "+" sign on left.
It allowed me to enter $ information there (and in my case had the County Tax entry from prior year's return).
Return by "step-by-step" in upper right.
It now shows the proper amount (still can't edit there though - seems buggy).
that didn't work! In turbo tax PC version, if it thinks you didnt complete form 1098 it or the prerequisite worksheet the field is blocked from entry. You have to find the worksheet or offending form and delete it. Well that's what I did and bingo-bango, I could enter property tax.
I had the same issue where I was unable to enter the tax. In my case, I just double-clicked on the field and it brought up "Supporting Details" where I could enter my property tax amount(s) there.
I am having the same problem with not being able to enter my property tax for my primary home. I have tried all the suggestion about clearing the cache, restarting the program and checking for updates. Nothing works. I have the CD version of turbo tax delux.
That worked for me - double clicking on the entry and entering the amount in supporting detail. Thanks. Ron!
