The form wants to include his income as unearned. All the income was earned so there is no reason for reporting unearned credit. How do I remove this from the return?

It depends. To clarify, what form are we talking about? Also, what type of income is this?

It's form 8615. I have 2 W2s, 1099-NECs, and unemployment for 2020

The form wants to include his income as unearned. All the income was earned so there is no reason for reporting unearned credit. How do I remove this from the return?

Form 8615 is Tax for Certain Children Who Have Unearned Income .You must file Form 8615 if all of the following conditions apply:

  • The child has more than $2,200 in unearned income
  • The child is required to file a tax return
  • The child does not file a joint tax return with a spouse
  • At least one of the child's parents is alive
  • The child is within certain age limits

For tax purposes, the child's "age" is the age on December 31. The child must file the form if any of these conditions apply:

  • The child is under 18 at the end of the year
  • The child is 18 years old and does not have earned income that is more than half of the child's support for the year, or
  • The child was a full-time student age 19-23 and does not have earned income that is more than half of the child's support

If those conditions don't apply to you, you might delete the form.

To delete Form 8615 follow the TurboTax Online instructions below:

  1. Open your return, if it's not already open.
  2. In the upper right corner, click My Account > Tools.
  3. In the pop-up window, select Delete a form.
  4. Click Delete next to the form or schedule and follow the instructions to remove the form/schedule.

My son is filing single (he is 21) and we do not claim him on our income tax. He is doing TurboTax online and the 8615 form wants parent info even tho we don’t claim him.  He tried to delete form but it won’t let him and it loops back to the same form. Any suggestions?
