Does the IRS website indicate that you were sent less than what was reported on your federal tax return Form 1040 Line 34? - https://www.irs.gov/refunds
How much is missing? The 2 most common reasons this year is you entered the wrong amount on line 30 for the Recovery Rebate Credit (3rd Stimulus payment) or line 28 for the Child Tax Credit. Those lines are just if you didn't already get the full amount or qualify for more. The IRS knows what they already sent you.
A lot of people answered the questions wrong and tried to claim the credits again. Double check your bank statements to see what the IRS sent you during the year for the 3rd Stimulus payment.
NOT TAXABLE
It is not taxable and you aren't paying it back. Your 2021 return starts out by assuming you didn't get any Stimulus payments so it gives you credit for the full amount and your refund was too high. Then near the end you enter how much you actually got so it only gives you the difference if any. So you don't get it again.
Look at your tax return. It is not added as income anywhere or subtracted anywhere. The Recovery rebate credit on line 30 is only if you didn't get the Stimulus payment or qualify for more.
My refund did not include the 1400 stimulus that I am owed. I did not receive it when it was supposed to be given to me, so I was owed this and when my tax return was deposited I was shorted this money. This is money I was counting on and it was taken from me. What is turbo tax going to do about it?

If your refund is short $1,400 then that is because you said you did not receive the 3rd stimulus payment and the IRS has records that show you were sent the 3rd stimulus payment so they removed the $1,400 Recovery Rebate Credit that was entered on Form 1040 Line 30.
Go to this IRS website for your tax account to see if the 3rd stimulus payment is entered - https://www.irs.gov/payments/your-online-account
If you checked your bank account in the March - May 2021 timeframe and there is not a $1,400 EIP3 payment from the IRS then go to this IRS website for how to start a trace on the payment - https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/questions-and-answers-about-the-third-economic-impact-payment-topic-j-p...
@Jcerwin Sorry Turbo Tax can't do anything. It's only between you and the IRS now. Once Turbo Tax transmits your return they are done with their part.
If you claimed a missing stimulus payment on your return but the IRS took it off you have to ask the IRS. They think they already sent it to you. Maybe it went to an account you don't remember. Or you got a check or a card. It was probably easy to miss the debit card in the mail and think it was junk mail. They have to put a trace on it.
Double check your bank statements and Check your IRS account to see when and what they sent you (check both spouse's accounts if married)

Why is my refund $2800 shot coming from TPG plus the extra fees they took out
Just got off the phone with BFS. IRS could not give me answers. BFS said I had no offsets which is what the IRS said. However, I went back and entered my husbands SS# and 4 offsets in various amounts played back under his number We have no idea what it's for, when did it happen and why wait until tax time to notify you.
BFS says we should receive a letter with an explanation. Even after deducting the offsets and the $31.03 for the filing fee we are still missing $69.17 from our refund.
This has been a hell of a day.
Looks like the article was taken down… any chance you could tell us what was on it roughly?
@pd0722 $2800 is missing? That could be the 3rd Stimulus payment. Did you already get it? You tried to get it again on 1040 line 30. Line 30 is only if you didn't get the full amount or qualify for more.
Double check your bank statements and Check your IRS account (both accounts if married)

If the IRS thinks they sent it to you but you didn't get it request a trace for a missing third Stimulus payment
I seem to be blocked for a while I could read the ones that were posted to me, but I couldn't send any out. I have almost a100 posts and have saved them all but that is just the ones that answered my post. It may come back up latter I don't know.
There is absolutely some shady ***t going on here. They dangled a check list in front of me of reason why the "IRS" possibly had made adjustment to my account, but here is the funny thing... I don't have children and I reported that I received the $1,400 stimulus check and if any of that was the case (which it isn't) then why did they take $1,700 for a 1,400 stimulus check adjustment... can that be explained. non of this is adding up. I no longer feel I can trust Turbo Tax to handle my accounts properly. Transparency and Integrity goes a long way. I definitely feel a lawsuit is on its way.
This is definitely worthy of a class action law suit. I am waiting for over $1400 to be direct deposited to my account. Even if there was a delay, that should have been disclosed. This is the last time using TurboTax, and a big competitor CASH APP, just came out with the Cash App tax with no fees. So this does not help Turbo Tax in any way.

Exactly $1,400 is missing?
