LOL. I commiserate, same here...will just do the amended return after getting most of refund.
I have gone thru the crazy steps to find my GEOID and entered it in TT and is seems to take it and calculate a credit for my EV charger even though the IRS tables says my Census Track (GEOID) is NOT eligible.
Is TT validating the GEOID against the IRS eligibility tables at all? Or, do I need to self remove myself from this Credit?
Same issue here. See my previous post. What is interesting on its face is there seem to be more people that DO qualify yet TT is saying they don’t. Makes me wonder if the coders at TT reversed the logic. I just manually removed it by saying I had no EV charger installed as I trust the IRS tables more than TT at this point.
Sorry to hear so many of us are still caught up by this EV charger station credit mess...looks like the last I could find an update by the IRS on this credit was back in January 2024 according to the IRS website. Now it is the middle of March 2024 and it seems that trying to use TT is still not working correctly for a number of us including me despite the IRS update being nearly 2 months ago. Going directly to the IRS website and following the instructions there and doing a paper amended return seems to be the only answer for some of us at least. IMO I wouldn't be able to trust the handling of this credit by TT as correct unless it gives the same answer/credit when manually checked doing it the old fashioned way directly through the IRS site instructions. And for those of us getting inconsistent answers between TT and the IRS, in my case I know that I did the manual eligibility check at the IRS website correctly. And it seems from the experiences of others that some indicate TT said eligible when the IRS said not and some indicate TT said ineligible when the IRS said eligible...very troublesome IMO.
